Services for older people in Banbury

At Banbury Live at Home scheme, we want to enable older people to maintain their independence and live later life well.

Our Live at Home community group provides a whole range of support and services for older people that are available to older people across Banbury, including a wide range of social activities and events, supported outings, befriending services for older people, interest groups, signposting and other services that enable older people to remain actively involved in their local community.

Activities at Banbury Live at Home scheme include:

  • Befriending (1:1 and Telephone)
  • Outings
  • Social groups
  • Lunch clubs
  • Exercise classes

The types of service and support we offer puts members in control of their own support plan and members can choose the types of activities or services they would like, providing them with flexibility and variety.

We do this by offering different types of service that suit different wants and needs that members can access, picking and choosing from the whole range.

Information for businesses and corporates

MHA is able to subsidise many of its charitable services thanks to the generous contributions of businesses who want to make a difference in their local communities. How to get involved

Information for families and friends

If you’re looking at Live at Home to help someone you know, we understand. With a busy work life, family and other responsibilities, sometimes it just isn’t possible to travel regularly and give a loved one the dedicated care and support you wish you could provide. Refer a family member or friend

Information for healthcare professionals

If an older person in hospital has no family, friends or neighbours, we can assist them to return home. We work with GP practices, hospital discharge and re-enablement teams and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to support older people adjust and settle back at home after a period in hospital. Refer a patient

Information for local authorities

Through our preventative, person-centred services, we can reduce the strain on local health services – delaying, minimising or even preventing people’s need for them. More information

Volunteers needed

Can you offer your time to prevent people from feeling lonely and isolated? Maybe you're looking to become more involved with your local community?

If this sounds like you, we need your help!

We are offering you the opportunity to help older people in your community live later life well. We run weekly groups for people aged 55+ and are looking for Volunteers to get involved for a few hours a month, whenever it suits YOU!

Perhaps you’d like to contribute a couple of hours to fundraise? Maybe you’d like to take part in a weekly lunch club serving freshly cooked meals to our members?

We know that your time is precious so we will work with you to make sure you get the most out of your experience with us. From working directly with the groups and running your own sessions, to representing the scheme at local events are many aspects of the organisation you can choose to get involved with!

If you are a good communicator who shares our values of helping eliminate loneliness in older people, get in touch.

We have the following volunteer roles available:

Social Group Volunteer - The aim of social and activity groups is to help improve the quality of life older people who are socially isolated and may only get out to this activity. Volunteers helping in our social groups assist with providing group members with the support they need to join in the activity, including working one to one with an older person to help them enjoy the activity, serve refreshments, and help people with activities. For example some weeks you might help a member enjoy a craft activity, or do a board game.

Volunteer Befrienders - Our Volunteer befrienders help improve the quality of life for older people who are socially isolated and may feel lonely. Our befrienders are introduced to a member with the purpose of them spending an hour or two each visit to bring friendship, company, and a chance to chat. As part of the visit there may be a practical purpose, such as reading a newspaper to a visually impaired person, or accompanying the service user shopping or include a recreational activity. The aim of our befriending schemes is to support and encourage the member to access services and facilities within the community they live in.

Volunteer Drivers - As a Volunteer Driver you will be responsible for the safety of the older people in your care. You will escort people from their homes into your car, and then take them to / from the agreed destination, and see them safely back into their home.

Volunteer Cook - As a Catering Volunteer you will work in the kitchen of our scheme’s activity venue to help prepare a good quality lunch for our lunch club members. You may plan and shop for the weekly lunch club menus. You’ll get feedback from the members about what they would like to eat at future activities. You will help prepare food, keep the kitchen clean and to hygiene and health and safety standards and tidy away afterwards.
