 Where are we?

We’re in a quiet residential area in Compton, just off Compton Road, on the outskirts of Wolverhampton. Engelberg offers spacious bedrooms, a music lounge, TV lounge and activities room.

Activities, trips and events

Our two Activity Coordinators keep our residents active and entertained with a fun-packed calendar. Activities include: singing and music sessions, art and crafts, exercise programmes, reflexology and hand massages, church services twice a week plus personal support from our Chaplain who is employed at Engelberg and many more…!

We regularly take residents on trips. Recent outings include shopping, trips to the theatre and cinema, visit to a garden centre, afternoon tea and barge trips on the canal. Our residents tell us what they would like to do, and we do our best to make it happen.

And we love any excuse to put on a themed event. Throughout the year you’ll see events including a St Patrick's Day celebration (with Guinness Cake!), Easter Extravaganza and annual summer fete.

Chaplaincy and pastoral care
We are proud to be supported by a dedicated Chaplain at Engelberg, who offers pastoral support to all, whatever their beliefs. Our Chaplain is in the home 2 days a week, providing a listening presence, companionship and one-to-one pastoral support for all residents, their friends and relatives, and staff members – irrespective of their beliefs – and organise worship for those who wish to participate. Where appropriate, residents are encouraged to maintain links with local faith communities.

Visit us for an afternoon
If you’d like to experience living at Engelberg, we’d love to invite you for lunch and to spend an afternoon with us. It’s the best way to really get a feel for our friendly home and decide if we’re right for you.

Join us for our regular coffee morning on the last Saturday of every month, 10:30am – 12:30pm.

Why are we called Engelberg?

One of our most asked questions! Engelberg was opened in 1966 thanks to a generous gift from local businessman, Mr John Bates. In memory of his wife he donated £50,000 to MHA for a care home to be built in or near Wolverhampton. Engelberg had been the name of the Bate’s home, chosen in memory of the Swiss resort where they spent their honeymoon.

Over 75 years’ experience

MHA is an award-winning charity, helping to improve the lives of over 18,000 older people across Britain. Through specialist care homes, retirement living schemes and vibrant community projects, we have been enabling people to live later life well for over 75 years. Find out more about us.

Privacy and independence, friendship and support - 24 hours a day
Engelberg offers care and comfort, compassion and friendship. At the heart of all we offer is our assurance that you will be treated with the respect and dignity that we all deserve, and if you need anything at all, we’re here to help, 24 hours a day.

Whether in the privacy of your own room or relaxing in the company of your friends and neighbours, we will support you to spend your time doing the things you enjoy. Let us know if it’s music, a favourite newspaper, exercise or a spot of pampering at the salon. Landscaped gardens invite you to appreciate the fresh air, or tend the plants, if you wish. There’s a wide range of social events, so you never need to feel bored or lonely.

Engleberg has the latest safety and security design features so you can live life to the full with peace of mind.

Your room
All rooms are comfortably furnished and we have free wifi throughout the home.

You can bring your own furniture to furnish your room, such as a favourite armchair or own bed. Walls can be personalised with pictures, shelving and ornaments.

Residential care
Finding a place that you can call ‘home’ is a question of getting the right balance.

Engelberg’s residential care provides 24 hour support to help residents maintain independence – giving you peace of mind and a place to make new friends and explore new interests.

In many ways it is like living in a hotel, where you don’t need to worry about laundry, changing the bed, cooking or cleaning your room. We use the district nurse and GPs to provide any medical care.

We support and encourage you to keep independent and active, maintain links with the local community and develop new friendships.

In the main living areas of the home you will find lounges where you can join in one of the many activities with others or to sit quietly with a book or newspaper.

Food and drink
Meal times are a special part of the day for you to savour tasty food, freshly cooked by our chef to suit you and any dietary needs. And, of course refreshments are available throughout the day for you and your visitors, who are welcome at any time.

“Meals are varied and well-cooked and nicely presented with always a choice of menu.”
