Countryside surroundings, close proximity to the pretty cathedral city of Wells and, above all, highly trained and committed staff in a purpose-built home - these are just some of the features that make Torrwood such a welcoming and safe place for people with dementia and nursing needs.
Torrwood has places for up to 82 people, all rooms are private and en suite, some with shower facilities. It has recently had a £130,000 refurbishment. We understand that personal tastes and needs vary, so we encourage residents to personalise their rooms. We also have one room that can accommodate a couple, which means that a couple who share different care needs can remain together at Torrwood.
Here, our staff members take the time and care to get to know each resident, talking to them and their families about their likes and dislikes and personal backgrounds and stories, in order to be able to provide the person-centred care that lies at the heart of MHA’s values.
In 2018, Torrwood care home received national recognition for encouraging residents to take part in regular cheerleading classes to improve their emotional and physical health.
We work hard to support older people to live meaningful lives, and believe that physical and spiritual needs hold equal importance. For example, the pretty garden is accessible by wheelchair and safe for people with dementia to enjoy. Residents are able to help tend the raised flowerbeds if they wish to do so, or simply relax on the patio and enjoy the view. Indoors, shared lounges and other spaces (including a reminiscence room) offer places for group activities or just the chance to enjoy the company of others.
We are also committed to providing alternative therapies such as music therapy to residents, while our Chaplain offers pastoral support to all at Torrwood, whatever their beliefs. In these and countless other small ways, we help nurture the well-being of each individual and help all our residents to lead a fulfilled life in the way that they choose.
Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.
