Where are we?
We’re right on the seafront on Marine Parade in the centre of Dovercourt Bay, with panoramic sea views. We’re situated in beautiful grounds, adjacent to Alexandra Court retirement living apartments. The local library, shops and restaurants are right on our doorstep. And our convenient location benefits from excellent transport links with a bus stop outside and the train station just two minutes away.

Activities, trips and events
Our passionate Activity Coordinator keeps our residents active and entertained with a fun-packed calendar. We focus on enabling personal fulfilment for each individual and supporting each person’s choices, interests and hobbies

Activities include: film afternoons, knit and knatter, baking, reflexology, gardening, pamper sessions, whist, quiz nights, bingo, arts and crafts, flower arranging, exercise sessions, bible studies and personal support from our Chaplain who is employed at Alexandra House.

We regularly invite special guests and external entertainers in to our home. The most popular is regular visitor Wanda, a gorgeous therapy dog.

We regularly go on local trips, making the most of our beautiful seafront setting, with visit to the promenade and park, out for an ice-cream or trip to the local beer garden. Our residents let us know what they want to do, and we do our best to make it happen for them.

“My nan is usually quite isolated, but she has taken every opportunity to participate in the activities provided by the home.” Independent relative review, carehome.co.uk

Award winning music therapy
We’re committed to providing alternative therapies such as music therapy to help alleviate isolation and the symptoms for those living with dementia. Our trained therapist is funded by charitable donations.

They interact with residents through live music therapy sessions. This includes singing, playing simple percussion instruments or responding to musical cues in a one-to-one or group setting.  Take a look at our video to find out more about this life changing therapy.

Chaplaincy and pastoral support
We’re proud to be supported by a dedicated Chaplain at Alexandra House, whooffers pastoral support to all, whatever their beliefs. The Chaplain is with us three days a week, providing a listening presence, companionship and one-to-one pastoral support for all residents, their friends and relatives, and staff members - irrespective of their beliefs.

Seize the day – making unique and memorable opportunities
Funded through charitable support, every MHA care home also prides itself in being able to offer unique and memorable opportunities and activities for residents to quite literally help them 'seize the day'.

Residential care
Finding a place that you can call "home" is a question of getting the right balance.

Alexandra House’s residential care provides 24 hour support to help residents maintain independence – giving you peace of mind and a place to make new friends and explore new interests.

In many ways it is like living in a luxury hotel, where you don’t need to worry about laundry, changing the bed or cleaning your room. We will use the district nurse and GPs to provide any medical care. Our caring staff help with everyday activities like bathing and dressing and support at meal times.

At the same time, we’ll support you to maintain links with the local community, or develop new friendships. Care staff will help you do that, while also working hard to create a home that’s full of opportunity and possibility.

In the main living areas of the home you will find lounges where you can join in one of the many activities with others or sit quietly with a book or newspaper.

“Cleanliness is excellent and the staff are outstanding, liaise really well with relatives, and general communication is wonderful.” Independent relative review, carehome.co.uk

Dedicated dementia care
MHA is a pioneer of person-centred dementia care in the UK.

With a reputation for providing the highest quality care, our person-centred care recognises each person as a unique individual and addresses their own spiritual and physical needs, with both reassurance and support.

Everyone with dementia is different. At Alexandra House, we take time to get to know each individual’s history, personality and preferences, and find ways to make every day fulfilling. There is wide range of activities and reminiscence therapy, keeping social interaction and stimulation a key part of everyday life.

Focusing on individual needs and support for older people, we make sure that we help our residents live later life well, aiming to alleviate the symptoms of dementia with understanding and expertise.

Our dementia areas at Alexandra House are secure units, designed to be safe for you, and also as familiar, reassuring and as easy to navigate as possible.

We offer mind stimulating activities and residents enjoy our reminiscence areas and sensory exercise sessions using balls and ribbons.

We provide ‘show and tell’ at mealtimes where you are visually presented with the two meals on the menu so you can select which one you would like. Other options are also available if you would like an alternative.

Your room
All of the bedrooms at Alexandra House are comfortably furnished and have an en suite wet room. We have free wifi throughout the home.

You can bring your own furniture to furnish your room, such as a favourite armchair or own bed. Walls can be personalised with your own pictures, shelving and ornaments.

“Mum's room is very homely and kept clean and tidy. It's like home from home.” Independent relative review, carehome.co.uk

Food and drink
Meal times are a special part of the day for you to savour tasty food, freshly cooked by our chef to suit you and any dietary needs. And, of course refreshments are available throughout the day for you and your visitors, who are welcome at any time.

Our commitment to your wellbeing
Our highly-trained, dedicated members of staff will always be on hand to provide your care and support in the way that best suits you, in the comfort of your own room with en suite facilities.

We choose the people who work with us very carefully. They need to share our values and respect people, their life experience and personal choices.

We take pride in the cleanliness and maintenance of your home and provide a thorough and friendly cleaning service. Your personal washing will be carefully laundered and returned to you, clean and fresh.

Regular exercise sessions, reflexology, pamper sessions and visits from our local chiropodist, plus uplifting visits from local schools and pet therapy animals, help to keep you mentally and physically active.
